I found out this week that Lucy Lawless will be joining the cast of Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and while I am not so much on that comic tip, I was super excited because Lucy Piercing Blue Eyes FLawless is going to be in another thing. Despite being (damn nearby apologetically) straight, Lawless has been a lesbian representative and beacon of ladylove hope for decades, ever since winning everyones hearts through her role of Xena: Warrior Princess.

I know I am far from the only one who was obsessed with Xena, but I was real obsessed from time one. Five year vintage me just wanted to run around with a chakram and just BE her, or at least that amazing battle yell. At Blazer Laser Tag (dont judge), I always always made my deal with Xena (except when I was feeling surly, in which case it was her dangerously attractive arch nemesis, Callisto).
When I was in second grade I was even Xena for Halloween. They did not have Xena costumes in stores for little ones yet so my mom made me this incredible outfit (of a more PG variety, as I was 8).

'Xena: Warrior Princess' was all sorts of amazing. Not only did Lucy Lawless change into a gay icon for her portrayal of Xena in the live-action TV series, but she also showed the world that we were in desperate need of a influential female lead.

Fearless is the word that comes to my mind when I think of Lucy Lawless. Her surname fits her so well, but it could just as well be Lucy Fearless, or even Lucy Badass, because she is all of these things.
It was my absolute pleasure to speak with Lucy via Skype recently where we chatted about her triumph as Ally of the Year in the recent Australian LGBTI Awards; the impact of Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess—still her most famous role; and her passion for making the world a improve place.

I loved it! I felt it was a bit retrospective because of the effect of Xena, but I was really grateful for many reasons because the LGBT community was the first to position Xena on the map.
