Chris is a longtime direct ally to the LGBTI community.
He says he was particularly impressed by college football star Michael Sam who came out as gay before the NFL draft.
‘My son plays football, and I remember when Michael Sam came out. I told him, “That’s a real man. That’s a guy with courage.” Right before he’s about to take the next step toward furthering his career, he said “I’m gay. Let’s move on.”‘
‘I think that’s the compassionate of example, the type of behavior, that’s going to push us forward,’ Meloni says. ‘For more people to say, “I don’t want to haul this silly burden anymore, this silly secret, let’s move on. It’s not the focal point of who I am.”‘
‘That said,’ he adds, ‘I’m not gay and I don’t deal with it on a daily basis, but that’s how it strikes me and I consider we’re already way far into it.’

The moment I first meet Christopher Meloni, he towers over me, and I have to look up at him to meet his eyes to tell him that I’m willing to glare past his butt and see the person within — a sentiment he shows appreciation for with a warm embrace and a “Thank you, Andrew.” It was one of the first 80-degree days in New York Metropolis, and I made the journey from Brooklyn to the Upper West Side to have lunch with the star of the new spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime who’d just finished wrapping the first season the sunlight before. Since he left SVU in 2010 for “new adventures,” his fans have begged for his return.
That morning, I spent more time changing my outfit than I ever have for any outing. My trusty short pleated skirt and chunky-sole combat boots were nonnegotiables, and I finally settled on a white button-down uppermost. The Upper West Siders shot me side-eye, but I did not anticipate Meloni to acknowledge my outfit choice. “Is that a signifier of whether you’re dominant or submissive?” he asks me with sincerity. The Emmy nominee credited his wife with their marriage’s success.
“It's her patience with me, and I really mean that,” he told People. “She's allowed me to blossom at my speed, because she's always been more mature and more levelheaded in many ways.”
Christopher also gushed about his wife’s artistic talent. “She paints, and I go in her studio, and it just makes me joyful. We have her perform all over the property. She wants to procure art, and I'm favor, 'I don't want that. I want yours,’” he said.

With his steely blue eyes, sculpted Italian features and brawny physique, let’s just state actor Christopher Meloni (Hist’83) doesn’t include much to worry about in the looks department.
No, it’s no surprise that People magazine named the long-time star of television’s Law & Order: Extraordinary Victims Unit one of its Sexiest Men Alive in 2006. It’s four days of labor and it will hold you four hours of prosthetic makeup.’ That really intrigued me,” Meloni says by phone from Hollywood. “Then he said the character’s name was Freakshow and I was appreciate , ‘That’s absolutely perfect, I don’t even need to read the script.’”
And so a Hollywood sex symbol came to play one of the most hideous film characters in recent memory, the dermatologically challenged, frazzle-haired, backwoods denizen in two over-the-top Harold and Kumar comedies.
