Mayor Bass signs order allowing Pride flag to be flown at LA Capital Hall during June
LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- Mayor Karen Bass announced Saturday she has signed an ordinance unanimously approved by the City Council allowing the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag to be raised at Municipality Hall and elsewhere in the Civic Center in June.
"I'm proud to acquire signed this historic motion to fly the Lgbtq+ fest Flag over City Hall," Bass said in a statement issued early Saturday. "Our message to the rest of the nation and to the nature is clear -- now more than ever, we must stand together.
"I need to thank Councilman Tim McOsker and the repose of City Council for working together to receive this done. We comprehend the harm that discrimination and hate brings and I'm proud that in Los Angeles, we approve our LGBTQIA+ community with open arms."
The City Council approved the new policy Friday on a 12-0 vote. McOsker and fellow council members John Lee and Kevin de León were absent during the vote.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia won his race in California’s modern 42nd Congressional District Tuesday, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ immigrant to be elected to Congress and just the second openly LGBTQ+ Latino ever elected to Congress. CA-42 is a majority Latino district and includes Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lakewood, Bellflower, Downey, Bell Gardens, Bell, Maywood and Huntington Park. It is primarily comprised of districts currently represented by Reps. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) and Lucille Roybal-Allard, who are retiring at the end of the 117th Congress.

Sierra Madre, Calif. - A 37-year-old gay dude has been sworn in as the new mayor of Sierra Madre, California.
Joe Mosca is an attorney for Southern California Gas Company. He doesn't watch his sexuality as existence a big deal vis a vis his recent job.
"For residents, the quality of life in Sierra Madre and what we are doing about the police department and the fire department and some of the other issues in the city, the budget, are much more pressing and much more important than whether Joe's gay or straight, and rightly so," he told the Pasadena Star News.
