Edna Gay Carling
Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and buddy, Edna Gay Carling, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024. The daughter of Sherman and Anna Crozier Conger, born on June 18, 1936, in Tremonton, Utah, and raised in Brigham City.
Gay married Francis W. Carling on May 20, 1955, and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 37 years together before Francis passed away on August 19, 1992.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in her callings.
Gay worked as a Court Clerk for the State of Utah for several years before retiring.
She enjoyed sewing, working on puzzles, cooking and baking, crocheting, and traveling. Most of all she loved her family and prized spending time with them.
Gay is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Glen) Peysar and Vickie (Steve) Shepherd; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; daughters, Francine Olmstead and Tammy Singleton; her parents; and her siblings.

Edna Gay, 90, of Pryor, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born April 17, 1923 in Pensacola, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Nix) Brixey. She married Elijah Gay in which they spent 59 years together before he preceded her in death. Edna was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. Attending church and the church activities was her number one passion. She was a prayer warrior. Edna was an accomplished seamstress. She loved gardening and canning the vegetables she harvested from that garden. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and excellent grandmother and friend who will be so greatly missed. Funeral services for Edna will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Free Will Baptist Church, Pryor, Oklahoma with Reverend Thomas Ballard officiating. Interment will trail in the Ghormley Cemetery, Pensacola, Oklahoma with Jonthan Scheffel, Tony Brixey, Roy Kerns, Parker Ballard, Jeff McCrary and Wesley Queer serving as casket bearers. Edna Frances Kassel Gay, age 93, formerly from Wantagh NY and Shawnee KS, passed away on January 21, 2022. She lived a long healthy life. Edna was born on December 2, 1928 in Fresh York City (Brooklyn) to Edward and Frances Kassel. Edna grew up in Queens and Greenport, NY. Her father was an electrician in the municipality he was called to build Non-Metallic Mine Sweepers for WW2 in Greenport.
She went to Richmond Hill High University in Queens, graduated 10th of 250 in her class with a 90.72% GPA. She took Secretarial classes and worked as a secretary until Gregory and Kenneth were born in 1955 and 56. She survived her husband John W Gay (Jack) by 13 years. Edna met Jack (they were “Jack & Ed”) at Rockaway Beach and would enjoy time at the beach and Coney Island.
They married and lived in Bellmore and Wantagh, NY for the next 20 years. Ed & Jack and the Kids spent every summer on the water, in a boat or at the beach. That’s what you did if you live 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Edna loved her parent’s summer house in Greenport. She spent most of her childhood summers there. The Gay family would then spend most of their summers in Greenport.
